The trail starts from the beautiful beach in Brbišćica bay. After the initial ascend along the paved road, it turns onto a winding goat path through a bush that leads you all the way to the Dragon’s Eye; a natural lake right by the sea. The trail continues along the coast, through several bays and over some sharp limestone rocks all the way to the Zmorašnji Vavošćak bay. After visiting this bay, which looks as something out of a pirate movie, the trail takes you back to Brbišćica bay. Along the way you will come across several caves, also known as Dragon’s hideouts, the most famous and most impressive of which is Golubinka.
The Dragon’s secret
In the area of Brbišćica once lived the great dragon Malagoš. In the age of men, he was already old and the wars of men and dragons had long since ended, so they lived in harmony. Sometimes people even called him to burn the weeds in the fields with his powerful breath, when they fertilized the impoverished and worn-out land with ashes.
When Malagoš felt that his end was near, he called the people and told them that during the thousand years of his life he had collected a huge treasure of gold and jewels, which he hid by the sea near Brbišćica bay, and that they could take it if they found it. People euphorically set out in search of treasure and dug from bay to bay, as evidenced today by the numerous holes and caves in the area. Until his death, the dragon watched the search and smiled from the lake known today as the Dragon’s Eye. You can still see the remains of his bones at the bottom of the lake. The treasure was never found although there are stories that its glow was seen by some people in a cave by the sea but they were unable to retrieve it. Take a look at one of these caves, maybe you will see it too.
