At the end of a gravel road that passes through a pine forest, near the hamlet of Ljokini on the island of Ugljan, there is a small seafront church dedicated to physicians and early Christian martyrs, Saints Cosmas and Damian. The legend has it that a sailor from a sunken ship was salvaged on the spot where the church was built. This small church reminds the believers of the protection provided to the shipwrecked by the holy brothers, Cosmas and Damian. It is a more than four hundred years old simple square building with thick walls (80 cm).
During the 20th century, the church got a new nave (space for the congregation), and the space of the old church was turned into a presbytery (a space for the priest and the altar). According to the parish chronicle from the 20th century, the church was a favourite place of pilgrims from all over the island who used to visit it on the feast of St. Cosmas and Damian when a blessing is called down upon all Ugljan sailors and ships sailing all over the world.
