The trail starts in Mir bay and climbs a slight ascent towards the salt lake. The lake can be passed from both sides, and is passed by a narrow path surrounded by a fairytale pine forest. After passing the lake, you can see small stone towers in a small bay facing the open sea that people built for good luck. Continuing further on you come to the beautiful sandy beach Lojišće where you can swim. This Across the Lake trail ends with a goat path that takes you over the hill to the bay on the other side.
The origin of salt lake
Not far from Mir bay, in a small house whose trace was lost over time, two brothers once lived harmoniously. Their pride was the vineyard located in a field with fertile soil on the site where the salt lake is today. The brothers have been cultivating the field together for years and have turned it into the most beautiful, widely known vineyard.
Everyone admired it. But the delicious nectar from the vineyard eventually sowed the seeds of doubt among the brothers. A doubt that the other brother was secretly taking more nectar for himself. One night, both brothers summoned the devil himself and asked him to submerge half of the vineyard belonging to the other brother, and to give him his soul in return.
So, the devil dissolved the bowels of the island and released a huge amount of sea into the once fertile field, which sank everything in front of it. That is why today you can find a healing mud in the lake created from the once fertile soil of vineyards, and in the southern part of the island, during strong winds you can hear the moans of the brothers penetrating from hell, and with which they forever invoke their intoxicating nectar.
