At the beginning of this trail you will find yourself on the edge . From the viewpoint, there’s a small hunters’ path that will take you across the cliffs to the gravel road. At some point you will find donkeys on the right side of the road. DO NOT FEED THEM! The gravel road leads to the salt lake at the end of which visitors often build small stone towers for good luck. From there it goes around the lake and brings you back to the bay Mir.
The birth of cliffs
Once upon a time, in the days when strange things were ordinary, witches lived among humans. As it is usually the case, coexistence got marred by greed. The witches, enchanted by the beauties of Dugi otok, no longer wanted to share it with people. They only wanted it for themselves. They approached the human masters and demanded that they hand over all of their estates and most of the island to them. The humans rejected them by saying that beauty belongs to everyone to admire it. Their response angered the witches so much that they split the island in half with frightening howls echoing for thousands of years after that and submerged one half deep in the sea. “If we can’t have it, neither can humans,” they said afterward.
That’s the story of how the Cliffs were made. If you take a good look at the sea from the viewpoint during the full moon, you can see the witches still guarding the sunken half and inviting people into the abyss below the Cliffs with their charm. Therefore, do not get too close to the edge, or the witches might lure you in.
