Tkon Maritime Heritage Interpretation Centre can be reached by vehicles, bike and on foot. The Centre is open for visitors during the summer months. Group visit need to be announced and agreed on info@tzo-tkon.hr or via telephone on +385 (0)23 285 213.
The collection of the Tkon Maritime Heritage Interpretation Centre presents a valuable cultural and historical content that is interesting to tourists and visitors, as well as to the local population. The exhibits encompass various aspects of the Tkon’s past by presenting the daily life of the local population, with an emphasis on old skills and tools related to shipbuilding, fishing, agriculture etc. In addition to panels presenting different segments of everyday life through photos and textual descriptions, individual segments of life on the island are also presented through audio stories and video materials.
Multimedia here enables visitors to learn interactively about certain aspects of history and tradition in Tkon. It provides the virtual presentation of many attractions in the municipality of Tkon, from cultural monuments to viewpoints, trekking and hiking trails.
The exhibition includes many useful everyday objects, from agricultural tools to the equipment used for harvesting Ark clams (kunjkara) and decorative parts of the women’s traditional clothing (zalistavac). The exhibits, mostly donated by the locals for the needs of the project, bear witness to the past way of life and work in Tkon and give visitors insight into the rich tradition and cultural heritage.
