Premuda

Situated in the vicinity of the islands of Ist, Olib and Silba, Premuda is like a colourful mosaic with the nature as one of its main tessera. Premuda is a typical island of the Zadar Archipelago, not particularly large, but decorated with numerous magical sandy and pebble coves and beaches with turquoise sea. The island has a single homonymous settlement situated at the highest point of the island. This settlement has about 60 permanent residents, but its population usually and largely increases on weekends and in the summer. Premuda is a real paradise for sailors and people looking for peace and relaxation. In the north of the island there is a port called Loza, and on the south side there is the port of Krijal. Premuda is the westernmost island of the Zadar Archipelago, and its distinctive contours are overgrown with holly oak (hrast crnika), low vegetation and olive trees.

It is a destination that attracts sailors and divers from all over the world by its extraordinary submarine area. In the vicinity of Premuda there are numerous attractive dive sites. One of the most famous is the popular “cathedral”, an impressive system of caves that fascinates with its beauty and richness of the underwater world. However, there is the Szent István shipwreck, which is reserved only for the most experienced divers and for those looking for challenge. Premuda is the westernmost and farthest island of the Zadar Archipelago and it became a part of the world historiography after the Szent István was sunk. Saint István is the largest and most famous ship that lies at the bottom of the Adriatic, and there are many ships that have suffered a fate like his throughout the history. Today, Szent István, which lies keel up and whose highest point is at a depth of 45 meters Titanic of the Adriatic or the Mount Everest of the Adriatic.

Not only is Premuda the favourite dive spot, but it is also an important sailing point. As such, it has two harbours and a ferry dock, providing a safe anchorage ground and harbour for vessels of all sizes. Premuda is a perfect place for watching the sunset over the horizon and the scenes that take everyone’s breath away.
