Olib

Enjoy the timeless beauty of the island of Olib, a hidden gem of the Croatian Adriatic! Olib is the eighteenth largest island in Croatia, but its 33.34 km long indented coastline testifies to the wealth of its natural beauty. Olib is elongated in the north-south direction and it stands out for its unique geography. This island is an ideal place for a quiet vacation, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is only one village on the island, which makes it a special destination for all those who appreciate privacy and love peace and quiet.

Olib was first mentioned by Strabo, the historian and geographer, who describes it with a settlement on the hill called Gradina. Nowadays, it is known for the sheep farming, olive growing, dry stone walls, oak trees and the restored old parish church of St. Stošija, where the Glagolitic codices are kept. The largest bay and port of Olib are situated on the west coast of the island, while on the east side there is a port called Slatinica with the most beautiful sandy beach on the island. In Banjve bay there are the remains of a settlement from the Roman era, as well as of the three-nave church of St. Paul and the monastery of the hermits, which was abandoned at the end of the 12th century. The cove of St. Nicholas with the homonymous church is sheltered from all but the south winds and is therefore suitable for anchoring. The Kaštel fort dating back to the 16th century still dominates the village of Olib.

The island of Olib is one of the lowest in the Zadar Archipelago with its highest peak called Kalac at the altitude of only 74 m. Its coast is predominantly sandy and shallow, with numerous hidden coves and bays that can offer solitude and peace while swimming. Those who prefer active holidays can enjoy a variety of activities such as diving, fishing, windsurfing and exploring the island by bike. And those in search for culinary pleasures can taste fresh fish, home-made oil, wine and cheese, all from local producers. This culinary pleasure can be completed by relaxing walks through picturesque olive groves and vineyards. In addition, Olib is an ideal nautical destination, and its beaches make it a perfect place for relaxing and enjoying the crystal clear sea.

Not only is Olib connected to the mainland by daily ferry or catamaran lines from Zadar, but it is also connected by boat lines to Mali Lošinj and surrounding islands such as Silba and Premuda.

Discover the beauties of the island of Olib and the namesake small Mediterranean village that will bedazzle you with its genuineness and beauty. Welcome to Olib, your oasis of a peaceful vacation on the Adriatic Sea.
