The “Jedrilje” monument on Silba, created by sculptor Šime Vulas, was erected in 1997 as a symbol of the island’s maritime tradition. This four-meter-high stone sculpture is located by the shore near the Old Pier in Žalić. In 2019, it was severely damaged by a lightning strike, prompting a restoration initiative supported by the City of Zadar and the Samotvorac Society. The restoration and conservation work was carried out in a workshop in Zadar, and the restored monument was returned to its original location. Today, “Jedrilje” remains a recognizable symbol of Silba and a lasting reminder of the island’s rich maritime heritage.
