Silba

Silba, known as the “gateway to Dalmatia,” is a unique oasis of peace without cars, featuring some of the most beautiful beaches in the Adriatic. Located on an ancient maritime route between Zadar and Istria, it is surrounded by Olib, Ist, Premuda, and Škarda. The island’s name is linked to the Greek word silbon (sand) or the Latin silva (forest). Within just 15 km², charming alleys lead to breathtaking beaches such as Šotorišće, Ugljanica, Pernastica, and Mavrova. Its most famous landmark is the 15-meter-high Toreta tower, also known as the “monument of love,” while the spirit of the island’s seafarers still lives on in old captain’s houses. The oldest church, St. John the Baptist, dates back to the 15th century, and the Pocukmarak bay hides ancient sarcophagi. Although today home to around 300 residents, Silba has been inhabited since Illyrian times. It is the perfect destination for those seeking relaxation in unspoiled nature and crystal-clear waters.
